The Hotel Schani Wien, located at Vienna’s new Central Station, will be the city’s first co-working hotel. The creation of a full co-working space in a city-centre hotel is in line with international trends and is the result of long-term cooperation with the Fraunhofer IAO – applying the findings of the institute’s FutureHotel research project to form the basis of the hotel concept.
Hotel Schani Wien will incorporate a complete co-working space into the hotel lobby -- the first hotel in Vienna to join this international trend. Guests and local co-workers will not only enjoy access to a workplace, but also experience the basic principles of co-working, such as collaboration, sustainability and community. There will be numerous possibilities to work, conduct meetings or communicate with other guests, in addition to a separated area with 20 workspaces and a conference room.
Business travellers and local co-workers will become part and parcel of life in the lobby and, at the same time, have the opportunity to retreat to separate rooms, if desired. All the possible technological needs -- such as enough sockets, access to printers, scanners and other widgets, as well as ultra-high-speed wireless LAN – have already been incorporated in the planning phase of the hotel and will be available as required.
The Hotel Schani Wien co-working lobby is an innovation that will be developed to its full degree for the very first time in Vienna. It is the result of long-term cooperation between Hotel Schani Wien and the Fraunhofer IAO. The team at the Fraunhofer IAO created the first conceptual ideas for a co-working space incorporated in a hotel building as part of its “meshotel” study. This concept will be made a reality at Hotel Schani Wien, after its joint development and adaptation to the environment of the hotel. “The objective was to turn the lobby into a space with atmosphere and integrate the co-working concept successfully into the hotel business,” remembered Stefan Rief, Head of Competence Centre “Workspace Innovation” at the Fraunhofer IAO.
The concept is based on a guest survey made during the FutureHotel research project, which examined guests’ expectations of the hotel of the future. This survey showed that about 46% of all business travellers quite often work at their hotel. It was found that guests requested the chance to work in the lobby area, where they feel more incorporated into what is going on, in addition to workplaces in their rooms. The co-workers at Hotel Schani Wien will be able to choose from a variety of workplaces in the lobby -- the co-working space, on the gallery, in the garden or near the bar. Co-workers will also be able to take advantage of our breakfast and lunch options, should they desire. “With business travellers being one of our key target groups, we want to surpass their expectations with our co-working lobby and also give them the opportunity to interact with local co-workers,” added Mag. Benedikt Komarek, Managing Director of Hotel Schani Wien.
Hotel Schani Wien
Hotel Schani Wien is the second hotel run by the Komarek family from Ottakring -- Vienna’s 16th District -- after their eco-friendly Hotel Gallitzinberg. This modern hotel with its Viennese charm will open its doors on the site of Vienna’s new Central Station at Quartier Belvedere in Spring 2015. A total of 135 rooms, including 10 studios, a multi-functional lobby and a courtyard garden with a “green oasis” right in the city will await the guests. Managing Director Mag. Bendikt Komarek is continuing his family’s successful hotel tradition with his own trendsetting project and innovative ideas in cooperation with Archisphere architects.
