Anyone who compares a “Grätzel” with a district has probably never been to Vienna. We understand a “Grätzel” to be a unit without official borders – small parts of the city that radiate a very special attitude towards life with their unmistakable charm. Join us on a tour of the most charming and interesting corners around our Hotel Schani Salon on Mariahilfer Strasse, Vienna’s busiest shopping street.
Naschmarkt: A journey around the world
A stroll through the popular Naschmarkt is not only a feast for the eyes but also an experience for all other senses. And the best part? You can sample delicacies from all over the world – from fresh fruits and vegetables to exotic spices and international specialties. If you’ve had enough of the bazaar atmosphere in the middle of Vienna, you can simply relax in one of the many nearby restaurant. Every Saturday, a large flea market invites you to browse through unique treasures and secondhand rarities – whether you’re searching for something or not, you’re bound to find something!
Spittelberg: The village in the city
It’s hard to believe, that the idyllic Biedermeier quarter with its quiet courtyards and romantic alleys once belonged to Vienna’s most notorious areas. Today, it’s lined with cozy restaurants, small craft shops and art stores. Insider tip: The annual Christmas market makes the “Montmatre of Vienna” shine with a particularly festive atmosphere.
MuseumsQuartier: THE cultural hotspot
The place to be for art and culture enthusiasts, and those who aspire to be: Where the imperial stables once stood, today popular museums like the Leopold museum and the MUMOK, restaurants, cafés and shops come together. In the center of the MuseumsQuartier the famous MQ furniture, known as “Enzis”, invites you to relax. If you are worried about a culture shock, we recommend taking it all in from a distance – or better yet, from above – on the MQ terrace. Preferably with a drink or two in hand.
Aqua Terra Zoo: An Atlantic dive with a soaring view
In the 11 floors of a World War II flak tower a variety of animal species are waiting to be admired by you – including stingrays, turtles, sharks and much more. After exploring the depths of the ocean, you can also discover the heights of Vienna: either from the rooftop bar 360° OCEAN SKY or by climbing to the top of the tower. Speaking of the flak tower: On the 10th floor, the exhibition “Remembering Inside” provides information about the eventful history of this versatile building.
