There is a lot of technology behind most of the sustainability measures at our hotels. For example, our rooms are cooled and heated with innovative induction technology. We also use district heating and cooling, and even rainwater is not wasted here, but reused. Even so, we are sure that there is still more to be done! That’s why, for the first time, we are trusting in holistic building automation at our new Hotel Schani UNO City. Our goal is to make sustainability measurable and take all possible opportunities to reduce CO₂ emissions.
It goes without saying that we rely primarily on LED technology and provide charging stations for electric cars. But what is also important to us is where the energy for this comes from: at Hotel Schani Wien, our own photovoltaic system on the roof produces 15 % of our total electricity consumption. The remaining demand is covered by Austrian green electricity from renewable sources.
Do all good things come from above? Even rainwater is not wasted at our hotel: instead, we collect it in an underground container and use it to water our garden at Hotel Schani Wien. That way, we support the natural water cycle and save valuable drinking water.
Speaking of saving water: there are aerators on all the taps in our bathrooms to reduce the flow of water. An extra tip for those wanting to save even more water: just shower together.
At Hotel Schani UNO City Wien, we are starting a unique pilot project. By using infrared motion detectors in the hotel rooms, the air conditioning and heating are optimally adjusted to the number of people detected in a room. When leaving the room, all unnecessary power consumers are completely switched off. That way, we can not only reduce our energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, but also make sustainability measurable by evaluating lighting, heating, and cooling use.
Our goal: saying goodbye to waste. That’s why we save resources in daily guest communication. From booking to check-in to invoicing, everything is done digitally and in paperless way. This allows us to save thousands of pages of paper every year. We also avoid disposable packaging for cosmetics and at the buffet – after all, it’s the inner values that count.
We regularly collect information about the volume of waste in our hotels to ensure that we continue to improve and make more conscious, targeted purchases.
To properly dispose of unavoidable waste, we provide waste separation systems in the public areas of our hotels.
One of our most important goals is to minimize our CO₂ footprint as much as possible. That is why we do not use gas heating or air conditioning. We heat and cool with sustainable district heating and cooling and an individually controllable ventilation system. Nevertheless, the temperature remains pleasant all year round, both for sun worshippers and for guests who prefer to keep a cool head.
Old love never rusts! That is why we gave many pieces of furniture from the Umwelthotel Gallitzinberg a new lease of life when it was reopened as the Bio-Hotel Schani Wienblick. For example, we have repainted, varnished, and reupholstered old chairs that have always served us well in the past. Now, you can enjoy your breakfast in the guest room on the freshly upcycled seats.
We are also using recycled resources at Hotel Schani UNO City Wien. The tables in the lobby, for example, are made from the leftovers from coffee beans.
Just leave your car at the hotel during your discovery tour through Vienna. No matter in which of our hotels you are staying, public transport is not far away. If you want to explore the city without bus or subway, why not borrow one of the e-scooters at Hotel Schani Wien? Do you need to drop a bit of ballast in the form of rubbish before you head out into the city? No problem, you can dispose of your waste separately in the lobby.
Speaking of the lobby: right next to the elevators at Hotel Schani Wien you will find our Wall of Green. Here, we have created a place to exchange ideas. So, if you have any ideas about sustainable travel, just drop us a message in the green mailbox.
